Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?
Five years ago, I had gotten into great shape using P90X but have put on about 60 pounds since then. As my job responsibilities and travel began to grow (I travel two to three weeks per month), I lost the time and willpower to keep working out. I thought it was a “timing” thing and kept telling myself I did not have time to work out. I even tried some of the shorter workouts but was never able to show consistent improvement. It is amazing how the human brain works, I swear. When I looked in the mirror every day then, I never looked that fat. But once I saw my “before” picture, there was no denying it.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?
Two things made me reset my priorities. One was health-related and the other was vanity-related. First, I realized that I was 10 months away from turning 50 — the age that my mom had her pacemaker put in and when she found out she had diabetes. I was afraid I was at risk of both issues. Second, we had scheduled a Disney Star Wars cruise to celebrate my son’s graduation. As we got to within three months of the cruise, I realized I needed to get back in shape. On September 23, I was sent a picture from the previous month at Comic Con. It was that picture (the one uploaded here) that made me realize I had gotten a lot fatter than I felt. That is the day that I refocused my energy.
What is the greatest challenge you faced before beginning the program? How did the program and Beachbody help you overcome that challenge?
The greatest challenge that I found was getting the time to exercise again and the motivation to keep going. I tried a few of the shorter videos and saw minor successes, but I realized I was more sore than I had ever been after workouts. That led me back to INSANITY since I always felt good after the videos. Now that I am 49, my body was not recovering the way it used to. So, I found that the extended stretching at the beginning and end of the INSANITY videos was exactly what I needed. This also coincided with the rollout of Beachbody On Demand. This made it much easier for me to just carry my iPad with me during my workouts, whether at a hotel or in a gym.
What in particular did you like about the program you chose?
I love the variety in these programs. I also love how quickly each session goes. I love the stretching in the videos. As Shaun T says, the stretch is the most important part of the exercise.
Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody program. Which achievements are you proud of?
I have seen remarkable results so far. I have increased my strength dramatically. I am in better shape now than at any other point in my life. I have now lost a total of 80 pounds since I started back in October and am able to maintain right where I am at. I was also able to change my eating behavior, which makes maintaining much easier. In fact, I was able to come back from an eight-day cruise and still lost two pounds while on the ship.
How has your life changed since completing your Beachbody program?
I feel 1,000 times better than I did just three months ago.

I relied on Shakeology, Results and Recovery, and Recover during my entire program. I still use each of them every day. I have had to adapt a little as I am still traveling often but the individual packets are helpful.
