Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?
I am a father and husband and was getting to the point of being so out of shape, even putting on my socks was a challenge. I needed to hold my breath while putting on my socks, because my belly was a bit too big. Slip-on shoes were better to use for me. Playing basketball with my sons was almost a heart attack, because in a few short minutes, I was out of breath. I knew exercise was a must, but there was always tomorrow. Never do today what you can put off till tomorrow. I love the outdoors and, as a couch potato, I really did not have much drive to do anything at all. I loved to eat chips and drink root beer sodas, and they pretty much dictated how much I really wanted to do, which was very little in the way of outdoor fun. I was indeed a couch potato.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?
Hiking in our mountains is something I enjoy. I found that I could not do that very well because of the extra weight I carried. When I went hiking in the mountains with my buddy, I found after about 20 yards I was way out of breath. The next day I made a change. At the time, my weight was 260 pounds and I could hardly do anything I used to do. I realized that change was in the wind for me. I am an all-or-nothing kind of guy. That was in January. By the time I started choosing my workout program in April, I had already made changes in my diet, started eating clean, and lost 12 pounds.
What is the greatest challenge you faced before beginning the program? How did the program and Beachbody help you overcome that challenge?
The program I used in the past which worked was P90X, and the cardio was monster. From past injuries, that is a very difficult program for me to use.3 I modified all the time. Then my sweetheart said, “Hey, check out Body Beast.” Sagi and the six-part videos I watched gave me the encouragement I needed — the extra boost that drove me to get past all my excuses for not working out.
What in particular did you like about the program you chose?
Sagi’s picture in the hoodie! And of course I have always wanted to get huge. So it was a very good fit for me. I realize that becoming huge does not happen overnight, but it is a great place to start. And I liked that Sagi comes from a military background, and that sealed the deal for me. My father was in the military and I understand the discipline needed to finish the line.
Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody program. Which achievements are you proud of?
Being a fan of being fit, I went from 248 pounds to 227 pounds. As I would gain in size and lose in my chest and waist, my legs got bigger by an inch and my arms went from 15 inches to 16, so it really does work for me. Eating clean is important, and I still struggle with portion control. I am hungry all the time. It comes with the process of growth.
How has your life changed since completing your Beachbody program?
After two rounds of Body Beast,I have come to the place in my world that is awesome. My fitness level is amazing to me. I can play basketball and hike in the mountains without being winded all the time, and now getting out of bed is not such a chore.
How did participating in a Challenge Group help you reach your goals? How did your group support you and keep you accountable?
They said I did not qualify after I did it. I sent in all my pictures and logged my workouts, but really that did not help me all that much. The desire to remain fit has to come from within or it won’t work.
How did a Beachbody supplement, nutritional product, or program (such as Shakeology or Beachbody Ultimate Reset) support your transformation? What are the greatest benefits you gained? Did you see benefits to your energy, sleep, mood/mental clarity, or digestion/regularity?
I tried to use the Body Beast program without supplements or nutritional products, and without Shakeology, for a week. I was so sore, I could not move or function at my job. So I waited for my supplements and tried it with them, and what a difference they made for me while I was working out six days a week.2
