Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?
Before starting my journey, I was overweight and would take a nap while my kids napped, because I was so tired from doing nothing and eating poorly. I got winded just walking up the stairs and my thighs would burn from climbing stairs as well. I was not in any physical shape. I felt self-conscious in just about everything I wore, and I hated buying new clothes. I was not active other than taking walks to the park with my children and doing the everyday picking up and cleaning. I definitely ate too many sweets and I had trouble with limiting how much. There would be days that would go by where I would not eat any vegetables at all, and I didn’t even realize it.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?
I had just had my third child three months prior to starting T25 for the first time, and I had tried watching what I was eating but I wasn’t having any luck.4 I was feeling self-conscious and uncomfortable in everything I put on. I was just unhappy with myself overall, not just with my appearance. A friend of mine asked me about trying Shakeology and a workout program because that’s what she had done after having her last baby, and she had lost 20 pounds. I loved what I was hearing, and I thought maybe this is what I need to be disciplined and actually feel better about myself.
What is the greatest challenge you faced before beginning the program? How did the program and Beachbody help you overcome that challenge?
I felt disappointed in myself, and I had the “I can’t” attitude. I would quit before I had even started. I had tried running but hated it because it was hard, and I couldn’t get very far. I would give up before I could even reap the benefits of pushing myself. I didn’t realize the mental aspect of running or exercise in general. I felt like I was less than those people who were thin, healthy, and fit. I felt like I didn’t measure up. I hated the fact that I couldn’t go to a store, just pick out some clothes, and buy them without having to try them on. At one point my mom even said to me that my belly was hanging over the counter. It made me feel fat and disgusted with the way that I looked.
What in particular did you like about the program you chose?
With a lot of the programs I chose, I liked that they were only 30 minutes or less. I also liked that they pushed me to be better. I was pushed beyond what I thought I could do, and it helped me to grow stronger and be better. I also liked that they were fun!
Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody program. Which achievements are you proud of?
I have lost 43 pounds and gained a lot of confidence! I feel amazing with who I am all around — physically, emotionally, and mentally! I can now run for more than five minutes. Before Beachbody, I couldn’t run for longer than 2–5 minutes without feeling like my legs were going to fall off. Now I can run for miles. The farthest I’ve run is five miles straight, and I’m about to do my first 10k race. Before Beachbody programs, I would dread exercise but now I look forward to it because I know how great it makes me feel.
How has your life changed since completing your Beachbody program?
I feel great about the way I look and feel more confident. I am happy with how I look, and I can actually purchase clothes without having to try them on. I have learned that the way I look doesn’t define who I am as a person. I feel fit and healthy, and love that I have energy all day and no longer desire to take a nap in the middle of the day. I’ve become confident in who I am and confident to step out of my comfort zone and wear clothes that I would have never worn before because I was too self-conscious.
