Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?
I was an athlete in high school but struggled to transition to a healthy lifestyle in college and through a majority of my twenties. I was on a constant swing with weight gain and dieting. At my worst, I weighed over 245 lbs. I was able to get my weight “under control” and maintained around 215 lbs. which kept me on the borderline of obese according to my BMI. I accepted that I was just large framed and would always be just a little bit bigger. I was never dedicated to my workout regimen and allowed my busy schedule to dictate my health. I felt ok with my body because I believed I was too busy to do better.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?
My wife! Last summer I took on a new job role, started grad school, bought a fixer upper, and had twins. My busy life only got busier and again my health took a backseat. I decided in mid-January that it was time to start another round of getting somewhat healthy and began counting calories. I didn’t even have the resolve to make it a New Year’s resolution because I didn’t want to set myself up for failure. My wife decided to start The Master’s Hammer and Chisel about a month later and asked me to join her. I originally committed to help motivate her to losing the baby weight, but she ended up motivating me to get healthy.
What is the greatest challenge you faced before beginning the program? How did the program and Beachbody help you overcome that challenge?
I struggle with portion control and making time for my health. The nutrition plan actually saved us time throughout the week and helped me get the right portions. Being able to work out at home meant that I always get my workout in. Before I would have to make time for the gym or worry about it getting dark before I was able to go for my run.
What in particular did you like about the program you chose?
The Master’s Hammer and Chisel was a good mixture of weight lifting and cardio for me. It was easy having the routines built and not having to worry about what muscle groups to work.
Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody program. Which achievements are you proud of?
I was able to improve my overall health and finally get to my goal weight. I wrestled the 189 weight class in high school and am now lighter than my wrestling weight. My goal was really to decrease my BMI and reduce the stress I placed on my body from being overweight. I have better control of my blood pressure and feel more energized to deal with my busy life.
How has your life changed since completing your Beachbody program?
Overall I just feel healthier, have more energy, and look forward to each workout.
How did your Team Beachbody Coach support you on your journey?
Amy provided recipes and came up with meal prep that worked for us during our journey. She was able to learn from her Coach network to help us be successful.
